2017 R2R Webcast: Matching Program Operations to Meet Increasing Demand for Enrollment in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Improve Quality Outcomes
Many cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs are being asked to see more patients, start them sooner, retain them longer, provide an alternative home-based CR option, and for some programs, be prepared to accommodate the recently announced CMS-driven episodes of payment (EPM) bundled model for MI or CABG and/or incentivized CR reimbursement structure. To best meet these varied forces CR programs may need to adopt new program operations and methods (i.e., staff models, enrolling strategies, MET level progression, days of service) that accommodate increasing patient enrollment and compliance, many of which will be described in the course.

Learning Objectives:
- Appreciate an overview/structure of the CMS EPM and incentivized cardiac rehabilitation initiative.
- Regardless of EPM and payment status, understand the importance of modifying/tailoring program operations and offerings in a manner that optimizes program outcomes and efficiency.
- Understand the various best-practice program operations available, including strategies such as progressing to the stratified use of ECG telemetry monitoring, group orientations, prescribing exercise at 4-5 class sessions per week, and using an in-patient liaison (with our without an automatic referral embedded within the electronic medical record).
