Current nutrition recommendations emphasize the importance of creating an overall healthful dietary pattern, rather than focusing only on saturated fat, sodium or any single component. But what does that overall eating pattern look like? Research has now identified nutrition strategies that can support vascular health, including arterial stiffness and endothelial function. This session will review research and discuss practical applications for several examples of nutrition strategies that focus on these aspects of heart health. From foods that supply polyphenols and other natural compound in certain vegetables, fruits and whole grains, to foods rich in nitrates and foods with prebiotic compounds to feed health-promoting gut microbes, and more.
