Mindfulness and meditation are beneficial to physical and mental health, both through direct and indirect pathways. There are many types of meditative and mindfulness practices that can elicit benefit to the practitioner. These benefits are particularly poignant to our cardiovascular and pulmonary patients as we look to physiological functioning, as well as known mental distress that often co-exists. This session will review the evidence base and empirical support for use of mindfulness meditation practices in our cardiopulmonary programs to further facilitate physical and mental recovery and rehabilitation. The session will end with in-vivo practice of some meditation exercises. Attendees will leave this session understanding more and feeling better!
- Understand what is mindfulness and meditation.
- Discuss the empirical support mindfulness and meditation has on physical health.
- Discuss the empirical support mindfulness and meditation has on mental health.
- Participants will take home at least three mindful mediations to share with their cardiopulmonary patients.
